I’M EXCITED TO SHARE WITH YOU TODAY THIS BUTTERFLY SHIRT PATTERN THAT IS SO EASY TO MAKE!
I have really enjoyed making clothes and this butterfly shirt pattern is so quick and easy. I love a quick sewing project! Here is a very easy shirt pattern for the little girl in your life. It can’t get any easier than this. When she puts her arms up, it looks like butterfly wings on the side of the shirt. This butterfly shirt is a size 4-6. Sewing Instructions
Step 1. Prep your fabric
Wash and dry your fabric. This will preshrink your fabric. You don’t want to make your item first and then wash it, because it will be distorted.
Step 2. Cut out your pattern
Cut out your pieces using the Butterfly Shirt Pattern.
Step 3. Sew shoulder seam
Place your two bodice pieces together, right sides together. Sew along the shoulders.
Step 4. Sew the hem
Fold over the hem of your shirt a 1/2 inch and pin or clip in place. Sew your hem down with a single stitch, or double stitch.
Step 5. Mark your side seams
Place your shirt on a flat surface and have the hem all lined up.
Take your paper pattern and fold it at the line for the side seams. Place the pattern on your shirt, centering it with the center of your shirt, and mark with a fabric marker. My fabric marker is water soluble and can be removed with a damp cloth.
Step 6. Sew side seams
Pin both layers in place so they don’t shift. Sew along both side seams, and the little triangle at the top of each side seam.
Step 7. Prep neckband
Lets add the neckband. Fold your neckband in half width wise. Sew or serge the short end shut.
Step 8. Attach Neckband
Find the quarter markings on your neckband and mark with pins. Find your quarter markings in the neck of your bodice and mark with pins. Match up the pins of the bodice with the pins of the neckband and clip together. Make sure the neckband is on the right side of the shirt. Sew or serge with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Step 9. Finish Neckband
Fold the neckband over to the wrong side, so the seam that you just created is at the top of the shirt. Pin or clip the neckband down. Sew a 1/4 inch from the seam to attach the neckband. You will have some excess fabric on the neck band. Use scissors to trim that off, being careful not to trim the stitching.
Enjoy your handy work! This is one of the easiest shirts to make since it’s two pieces of fabric, the front and back. Grab the free printable pattern for the Butterfly Shirt Pattern by filling out the form below. If you would like to add the butterfly heart iron on vinyl, find the tutorial here.
